Log Pile 2.1 is the smallest of the Log Pile configurations. The base log offers an opportunity to balance while the intersecting log adds play value as very young children learn to navigate disruption in their path.
Play Value
Log Piles give children open-ended play opportunities and provide adults (and kids) a great spot to sit and rest. Children may begin by climbing on the logs and laying on their back or front - finding a sense of balance while stretched along the logs. Others may feel comfortable crawling, sitting, or climbing over the logs, moving toward the ultimate challenge of walking along the tops and stepping from trunk to trunk.
Log Piles are low to the ground and therefore lower risk, but their angles and surface give children the ability to develop depth perception and body awareness.
Merits
Log Piles offer an organic climbing experience that mimics climbing fallen trees found on a forest floor. They can be used in combination with other pieces - like Post and Rope elements - to create natural play circuits. These are great environments to introduce higher-challenge play opportunities to younger children.
Materials
Log Piles are crafted from White Oak. Each piece is processed and sanded by hand. Logs range from approximately 8 to 12 (2.14 to 3.7m) in length. The natural wood texture is a pleasant sensory experience. As an excellent insulator, the wood never feels too hot or too cold to bare skin.
Accessibility
Log Piles are accessible when located on an accessible route. Children with different abilities may work to gain balance and motor skills moving around the logs and over them.
