Play Value
Log Tangle 4.1 incorporates four elevated triangular platforms (three high and one low) with unique connections between each.
A wide flexform sling seat with small holes may help children pull themselves up providing an accessible route from a transfer bench to the lowest platform. Magnetic beads can be pushed along a triangular rail above. An accessible bridge climber links to a second, higher platform with a slide.
The three tall platforms are connected by a large hangout net. Underneath, a giant rope provides a low-level play opportunity. Additional access routes to the tall platforms include flexform triangles, a climbing wall, notched logs and a Post and Rope extension.
Log Tangles can be functionally linked with other Post and Rope elements, Log Piles or Log Jams (where available) or can function as a stand-alone playground structure.
Option: Add shade sail over slide
Merits
The largest Log Tangle takes inspiration from cattails in a marsh, a grove of trees or twigs on a forest floor. The randomness of the upright posts evokes curiosity when viewed from a distance but up close, children discover the myriad of play opportunities. Climbing, sliding, traversing, balancing, and crawling are all possibilities on this large play structure.
Physical play is balanced with more passive play options. For example, magnetic beads on a triangular rail demonstrate reactionary forces as they attract and repel each other allowing children to magically ‘push’ the beads without touching them!
Materials
Log Tangles are built primarily with hand-processed Robinia pseudoacacia logs sourced from Ontario and the Northeastern United States. Logs have a minimum diameter of 6 inches and anti-crack bolts are added to the ends of each log. The slide deck platform is made of Accoya. The wood texture is a pleasant sensory experience. As a poor conductor of heat, the wood never feels too hot or too cold to bare skin.
All slides are available in either plastic (with colour options) or stainless steel. Black rubber flexform is used for sling seats, the accessible bridge climber and the access climber (with cut out holes). Nets and ropes are nylon-wrapped steel core. The transfer bench is oak.
The square braided rope is made of a Hemp blend with inner stainless steel wire. Magnets are embedded in a round 5”/130mm bead.
Caution: Mild magnetic field. Can be ordered without magnets.
