Play Value
"Yip! Yip! Yip! Yowwwl!" cries the Howler! With its neck extended, its long, arching body creates a mysterious passage underneath, inviting children into this powerful and mysterious creature. Cladding gaps create wonderful shadows; an interior bench offers rest or social play space. The tail can be climbed over or hidden under, while the rope ladder and tail give climbing access to the Howler’s back. The shape encourages both imaginative play and physical exploration; sheltered space underneath the body is perfect for ground-level play.
Merits
The Howler's striking pose makes it a compelling focal point for any public space. Its design flexibility is a key merit, as it can be customized with different stain options to represent a variety of howling animals, such as a wolf, coyote, fox, or even a domestic dog. This adaptability allows it to fit a range of themes and local contexts, including a forest theme or a winter theme with pines and mountains. The Howler fosters a sense of wonder, encouraging imaginative play, while also serving as a simple, playable piece of public art that can be placed in a park or schoolyard.
Materials
The Howler is constructed with a marine-grade plywood frame and is clad in Accoya. Its ears and the lower section of the tail are made from Flexform. The net is nylon-wrapped steel core.
Accessibility
The Howler is an accessible ground-level play feature when situated on an accessible path or surfacing.
COLOUR OPTIONS
The Howler can be left unstained or can be stained in a single solid colour to resemble a Wolf, Coyote, Fox, or Jack Russel.
